The department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities allowing providing diagnostic testing of the upper section of a gastrointestinal tract, large intestine, bronchopulmonary system, to perform a wide spectrum of endoscopic operations and manipulations including application of hi-tech technologies.

The hospital nurses of the department have top and first qualifying categories. All employees constantly improve their level of knowledge and qualification on the base of the Belarusian Medical Academy of the Postgraduate Education.
In cooperation with the Gomel State Medical University there was implemented the technique on endoscopic estimation of contact bleeding sickness of a mucous membrane of a large intestine as an additional criterion of treatment efficiency of nonspecific ulcer colitis. There was composed the innovation on the given subject.

Information for Patients
Preparation for Colonoscopy
The intestines should be purged. You should not use vegetable food during 3 days prior to examination (carrots, cabbage, apples and etc.).
Do not eat anything during the day prior to examination.
The intestines can be purged by two methods:
Method 1
- Before examination in the morning you should intake laxative - 50 gram of magnesia sulfate (to dissolve it in 0,5 glass of boiled water);
- This very day it is necessary to make two cleaning clysters in the morning and in the evening (Esmarch’s cup , volume of 2 liters, with an interval of 1-2 hours);
- In the morning at the day of examination, with an interval of 1 hour, clysters should be repeated till receiving clean water.
Method 2
- You should purchase a medication Fortrans in a drugstore - 3 packages;
- Dissolve it in boiled water (1 package - per 1 liter of water);
- Drink the obtained solution during the day prior to examination starting from 12.00: 1 glass each 20 minutes;
- Please, pay attention: if your body weight exceeds 70 kg or you have a susceptibility to constipations, for qualitative preparation it is necessary to drink 4 packages of Fortrans!
- In the morning at the day of examination you should take a shower!

Preparation to Esophagogastroduodenoscopy
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy is provided in the morning on an empty stomach or not earlier than in 8-10 hours after the last food intake. The patients with stomach evacuation disorder should irrigate the stomach in the evening prior to examination or to exclude food intake within a day. You should take a clean napkin with you.
