- The seminar-presentation of competitions - 2008 by section ‘PEOPLE’ of the 7th Framework Program on EU scientific research and technological development was arranged on May 13, 2008 on the base of RRCRM & HE
The seminar was organized by V.Evseenko, Ph.D, senior research officer of the Clinical Investigations Laboratory, RRCRM & HE and by O. Meerovskaya , the coordinator of National Information Office.
The employees of the Center asked the questions on participation in the next competition of the 7th Frame program of EU scientific research and technological development/ the announcement of the competition of the given program on section "Health" is expected to be in July, 2008.
- Chernobyl readings is a unique cycle of reports where the Republican Research Center for Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology in cooperation with the leading research institutions of the Republic of Belarus presents the results of the latest findings in the field of studying and overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl accident to Belarusian and foreign scientists, politicians and businessmen.
The aim of the readings: to provide all spectrums of research, concepts and opinions in the field of studying the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. The other important feature of the program includes providing knowledge to participants on current national and foreign scientific research for elaboration of conceptual directions of studies in the future and searching of partners for long-term cooperation.
The competent and authoritative scientists are invited for participation. The participants have an opportunity to discuss all scientific aspects with each other and to support further scientific contacts. It is planned to arrange the Chernobyl readings with the enrollment of the foreign experts that will assist to more active integration of the Belarus scientific idea into the international context promoting new approaches and attracting attention to the problems of the Chernobyl accident.

On April, 4, 2008 there was arranged the Regional scientific conference of ophthalmologists ‘Current Methods of Diagnostics and Treatment on Diabetic Changes of Organ of Vision’ on the base of RRCRM & HE. There were discussed the following issues:
- Modern methods in diagnostics of diabetic retinopathies (ОCT, fluorescent angiography, ultrasonic, etc.);
- Operative treatment of vitrioretinal pathology - indications, terms of referring to operative treatment of patients with diabetic hemophthalms, retinopathies.
- ‘Alive surgery - operative treatment of diabetic hemophthalms’.
- Two-day information-methodical seminar ‘Radiation and Health’ was arranged for medical personnel and research employees. The chairman of the National Commission on Radiation Protection at Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus , professor J.E.Kenigsberg addressed to the audience on ‘Radiation Effects: Deterministic Effects of Irradiation (acute radiation sickness, local radiation lesions) ‘, ‘Radiation Effects: Stochastic Effects of Exposure (the results of research of the exposed cohorts . There was provided the review of the accidents with ionizing radiation sources including the Chernobyl accident (the reasons, consequences for health, lessons) and were mentioned the new publications of the International commission on radiological protection. Professor Kenigsberg informed the audience about the preparation of the report of the scientific committee of the United Nations on nuclear radiation effect ‘Consequences of Exposure as a Result of the Chernobyl Accident for Human Health’ and answered the questions.
- There was held the meeting with participation of RRCRM & HE, Gomel Regional Executive Committee and the Ministry of Health Care of Belarus on program of development of RRCRM & HE for the nearest period. There were provided the reports on activity of the Center by:
- A.V.Rozhko, the director of the Center;
- A.P.Salivonchik, head of Immunoprophylaxis and Allergology Department;
- T.V.Gugeshashvili, head of Endocrine Surgery Department;
- L.V.Dravitsa, head of Eye Microsurgery Department;
- E.A.Nadyrov, head of the Clinical Investigations Laboratory.
The issues of collaboration of the Center with the institutions of the Ministry of Health Care of Gomel Oblast were reported by:
- V.V.Shljaga , the chairman of Narovlya Regional Executive Committee;
- S.S.Korsak, head physician of t Chechersk Central Regional Hospital;
- M.I.Tulupova, head physician of Gomel Endocrinology Dispensary;
- L.P.Ryzhova, head physician of the Gomel City Central Polyclinic and others.
The Minister of Health Care V.I.Zharko and the chairman of Gomel Regional Executive Committee A.S.Jakobson provided concluding remarks.
On January 18, 2008 there was held the Ophthalmologic scientific-practical conference on 'Current Methods of Glaucoma Diagnostics and Treatment' on the base of the Republican Research Center for Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology with participation of experts from Gomel (Belarus), Bryansk (Russian Federation, and Chernigov (Ukraine) Oblasts including the employees from the State Gomel Medical University and Belarusian State Medical University.
During conference there were provided the reports on pathogenesis, diagnostics, clinic and treatment of a congenital glaucoma; there was performed the analysis of the data on congenital glaucoma in Gomel area. 'Glaucoma "Alive Surgery"' was of great interest among the participants. There was arranged the direct broadcasting of operative treatment to a conference hall on post uveal glaucoma by original techniques developed by the employees of RRCRM & HE and Gomel State Medical University. Conference participants could get acquainted with work of the Ophthalmologic Center of RRCRM & HE and also with the Glaucoma Consulting Room newly-opened in January, 2008 where all modern methods of glaucoma diagnostics are applied including an optical coherent tomography of an optic nerve disk, definition of nerve fibers layer thickness, pachymetry, dopplerography of extra and intra cranial vessels furnishing circulation for an eyeball.
