STRUCTURE OF RESEARCH ACTIVITY

RADIATION PROTECTION DEPARTMENT

Head- Victor S. Averin, Doctor of Biology Sciences, Senior Research Officer (more than 120 articles, 2 monographs).
The Department of Radiation Protection is accredited on technical competence in the field of 137Cs identification in foodstuff and human body with use of the mobile laboratory including human-irradiation spectrometer installation and radiometric complex.

Directions of Research:

  • Estimation and reconstruction of exposure doses;
  • Scientific provision  and improvement  of exposure doses monitoring system at the population living in territories contaminated by radionuclides, scientific provision for  functioning of the State Dosimetry Registry;
  • Development of activity on increasing the protection of Belarusian population  from the radiation impact during the rehabilitation  period of the Chernobyl accident;
  • Expert activity on problems of radiation protection.

The structure of the department is the following:

  • The Laboratory of Estimation and Reconstruction of Exposure Doses of Population;
  • The Laboratory of Radiation Hygiene.

LABORATORY ON ESTIMATION AND RECONSTRUCTION OF DOSES

Head -Natalia G. Vlasova, Ph.D., Associate Professor (more than 100 scientific works, 5 joint monographs)

Directions of Research:

  • Scientific - methodical provision of the  Uniform State System on Account and Control of Exposure Doses of Belarus: State Dosimetry Registry;
  • Estimation of exposure doses at population of Belarus from the basic sources of ionizing irradiation including medical radiodiagnostics, natural sources and the Chernobyl component.

RADIATION HYGIENE LABORATORY

Head - Anatoly M. Skryabin, PhD (150 scientific works and 5 joint monographs).

Research Directions:

  • Revealing the regularities of formation of individual internal exposure doses of the Chernobyl-affected population;
  • Reconstruction of the individualized accumulated internal exposure doses of the Chernobyl-affected population;
  • Studying of the impact of the protection measures on decreasing the internal exposure doses taking into account the regional peculiarities;
  • Elaboration of recommendations of the existing complex of protection measures aiming to optimize the radiation protection of the population during the rehabilitation period of the Chernobyl accident.

EPIDEMIOLOGY LABORATORY

Head -Elena Y.Sosnovskaya, Ph.D. (more than 60 scientific works, including 1 monograph).

Directions of Research:

  • Radiation-epidemiological analysis of risk  of oncological and non-oncological diseases development at the Chernobyl-affected population;
  • Analysis and assessment of health status of the Chernobyl-affected population;
  • Providing monitoring of incidence by  most significant classes of diseases probably caused by the consequences of the Chernobyl accident;
  • Elaborations of proposals on optimization of medical provision of the affected population.

 CLINICAL RESEARCH LABORATORY

Head-Eldar A.Nadyrov, PhD

Research Directions:

  • Estimation of clinical disorders appearing  as a result of negative environmental factors impact, including radiation factor;
  • Formation of approaches to development of new methods of diagnostic, therapy and prevention of diseases connected with  long-term impact of  radiation and other man-caused factors;
  • Development of methodology on performing screening examinations of population directed on revealing of basic diseases (cardiovascular, endocrine, metabolism diseases) at early stages.

MOLECULAR GENETICS LABORATORY

Head - Arcady E. Silin, Ph.D (more than 40 scientific works and 1 monograph);

Research Directions:

  • Research of connection of mutational events in somatic cells of the body with occurrence of various pathologies, including oncological diseases;
  • Development and implementation of new molecular-genetic methods of  estimation of predisposition to various oncological diseases including osteoporosis  and cardiovascular diseases;
  • Development and implementation of efficiency estimation methods of treatment of oncological and other diseases burdened by gene mutations.
