The basic directions of scientific - practical activity of the surgical department are the following:
- Development of surgery of extra cranial sections of branches of aorta arch directed on prevention of acute disorders of brain blood circulation and rehabilitation of patients with neurological symptomatology;
- Optimization of diagnostics and surgical treatment of nodular and diffuse-toxic goiter; treatment and prevention of recurrent goiter;
- Improvement of current low invasive technologies in abdominal surgery;

The surgical department is a clinical base for the Chairs of Surgical Diseases #1 and #3 of Gomel State Medical University. Professor Anichkin Vladimir Vladimirovich and the senior lecturer Gugeshashvili Tengiz Vardenovich read lectures and provide seminars for students of the 4th, 5th, and 6th years of studying.
The citizens of Belarus can receive free medical aid in the Center and the citizens of other states can obtain the scheduled surgical help on a paid basis.
