Scientific activity

Laboratory of Radiation Protection
The main fields of research:
  • Study of formation patterns of internal doses to the population exposed to radiation as a result of the Chernobyl accident.
  • Statistical modeling, including the development and improvement of methods for estimating the average annual effective doses of exposure to the population for the purposes of zoning territories, the development of radioecological models for estimating doses.
  • Reconstruction of the average and individualized cumulative exposure doses to the population affected by the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Dosimetry support of the State Registry of persons exposed to radiation as a result of the accident at the Chernobyl NPP.
  • Development of methodological documents and computer programs for calculating the average annual effective doses of exposure, average group and individualized accumulated exposure doses to the population residing in contaminated areas.
  • Organization of emergency planning, preparedness and emergency response, providing scientific and methodological support to the situational crisis center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus
  • Expert activity on radiation safety issues.

Head of the Laboratory – Natalya Vlasova, PhD in Biology (habil.), professor. Specialist in the field of dosimetry, radiation hygiene, radiation safety, radiobiology, statistical modeling. National expert of the IAEA on the assessment of exposure doses to the population residing in contaminated areas.

Author of more than 300 scientific papers, including those published in foreign editions, including 5 monographs, 150 articles, 12 scientific and methodological documents (instructions for use) approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, 2 textbooks and 3 teaching manuals. Developed 25 rationalization proposals.

Scientific supervisor of more than 30 research projects under the State Program for overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl accident and the Union State Program. The results of the R&D implementation have been introduced into the practice of the regional centers of the unified system for recording and controlling doses and the Department of the State Dosimetry Registry on the basis of the Center: more than 20 acts of implementation have been received.
