Endocrinology

The provision of medical care to patients with endocrine pathology is carried out in the outpatient and inpatient departments. The endocrinology department provides medical care in all major areas of modern endocrinology using modern methods of diagnosis and treatment. The endocrinology department is the clinical base of the Therapy Department with the course of endocrinology of the Gomel State Medical University.

The main areas of clinical work are:
  • treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus, competent selection of modern hypoglycemic therapy with an individual approach to each patient, including the use of continuous glucose monitoring systems in the "real" time mode, the initiation of insulin pump therapy.
  • patient education at the Diabetes School.
  • diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic complications of diabetes mellitus, including diabetic foot syndrome (which does not require surgical treatment), the possibility of angiography of the lower extremities, if necessary, preparation for kidney transplantation, preparation of patients for ophthalmic operations, selection of therapy for macrovascular complications of diabetes - arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure
  • diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases: selection of drug therapy, preparation for surgery on the thyroid gland of patients with comorbid pathology
  • diagnosis and treatment of endocrine ophthalmopathy using modern methods of treatment (pulse therapy with glucocorticosteroids)
  • diagnosis and treatment of adrenal diseases: determination of the hormonal activity of adrenal formations, diagnosis and replacement therapy of hypocortisolism, choice of management tactics for hypercortisolism, correction of disorders in congenital dysfunction of the adrenal cortex using modern methods of laboratory and instrumental diagnostics
  • diagnosis and determination of tactics for managing the pathology of the pituitary gland - acromegaly, Cushing's disease, hyperprolactinemia, diabetes insipidus, hypopituitarism of various origins
  • differential diagnosis and determination of management tactics for patients with primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism, postoperative hypoparathyroidism, osteoporosis of various origins
  • examination of patients with hypoglycemia for the purpose of differential diagnosis of organic hyperinsulinism and hypoglycemia of other origin, topical diagnosis with insulin
  • examination and treatment of patients with autoimmune polyglandular syndromes and syndromes of multiple endocrine neoplasia, ACTH-ectopic syndrome, preparation for surgical treatment
  • examination of patients with obesity in order to exclude the endocrine causes of obesity, the selection of drug treatment of obesity
